Melvin A. Valentine

Melvin A. Valentine, 79, of Beaman, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad, Iowa. Funeral services for Melvin will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Beaman United Methodist Church with Pastor Gene Kubli officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorial contributions may be directed in Melvins name to his family. Melvin Arthur Valentine was born on February 15, 1938 in Aplington, Iowa, the son of August and Minnie (Buseman) Valentine. He was raised and educated in the Aplington School District, graduating from Aplington High School in May of 1956. On December 2, 1960, Melvin was united in marriage to Vernice Syhlman at the Aplington Reformed Church. Melvin worked 22 years as a farm hand for Darwin Vint before joining the grain department of the Beaman Co-op and retired from there after 20 years. He was a proud member of the Beaman United Methodist Church. Melvin had a passion for woodworking, watching football, baseball, college basketball games and spending time with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Brian (Denise) Valentine and their children: Heather and Tyson, his daughter, Candace (Ian) Frerichs and their son Scott; two brothers: Jake (Linda) Valentine of Iowa Falls, Bob (Eileen) Valentine of Wellsburg, and sister, Alida (Harm) Freese of Hampton. He is preceded in death by his wife Vernice; parents: August and Minnie.
