Melvin Williams, 79, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Central Iowa Healthcare in Marshalltown, Iowa. The family will have a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa. Melvin LeRoy Williams was born on October 19, 1937, at the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was the son of Marvin and Lucille (Kiser) Williams. Melvin attended school in the Marshalltown Community School District graduating with the Class of 1956. Melvin was united in marriage to Judy Hamelau and to this union three children were born: Ted, Mike, and Kim. They later divorced. Mel had been the manager for Days Lanes and Totem Bowl, worked at Marshalltown Trowel, and retired from Cooper Manufacturing. He loved sports of all kinds, but Melsy loved the Hawkeyes and the Cleveland Indians and got to see them get to the World Series. He enjoyed bowling and was a long-time baseball coach, teaching baseball to many youth in the Marshalltown Little League. He was the first bowler in Marshalltown history to have two 700 series in the city tournament. His team won team title and he also won doubles crown with his brother Donnie. Mel was T-R Bowler of the Year in 1976. Above all Mel loved to watch the sports activities his grandchildren were involved in. Left to cherish Mels memory are his children, Ted (Dawn) Williams and Mike Williams, both of Marshalltown, Iowa and Kim (Kevin) Bielawski of Missouri; grandchildren, Brett (Kim) and Grant Williams; Kal and Kam Bielawski; great-grandchildren, Alex, Sophie and Claire; brother, Gary (Irene) Williams of Marshalltown, Iowa. In death Melvin rejoins his parents, Marvin and Lucille, and brothers, Donnie and Larry Williams.
