Merle Starn

Merle Mert Starn, 76, of Marshalltown, passed away on the evening of Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa Rev. Dr. Kim Wilson officiating. Born on April 2nd, 1940, in Eldora, he was the son of Howard and Bessie (Krueger) Starn. He graduated from the State Center High School. For 33 devoted years (1966-1999), he was a machinist at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown. Mert enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors, BBQing and was known as being a fantastic cook. Left to cherish his memory are his children- Jerry (Brenda) Starn of Marshalltown and Christine Suchak of Melbourne; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and his brother, John (Pat) Starn of State Center. In death, he rejoined his parents and brother, Roy.
