Merlin Mick C. Oetker, 84, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016, surrounded by his family at State Center Nursing and Rehabilitation in State Center, Iowa Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at St. Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, a Vigil will be held at 7:00 pm. at the funeral home. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Mick and his family. 641-844-1234. Merlin C. Oetker was born on November 13, 1931, near Haverhill, Iowa to Frank and Frances (Tranel) Oetker. Mick grew up near Haverhill, IA. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 1954. On August 18, 1956 Mick was united in marriage to Patricia Hines at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. He worked at Iowa Electric Light and Power Company as a Lineman for 40 years, retiring in 1991. Mick had been a member to St. Marys Catholic Church in Boone, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and the American Legion 40 & 8. Mick enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards, cribbage and watching the Chicago Cubs. Left to cherish his memory are his sons; Gregory (Mary) Oetker and Jeffrey (Peggy) Oetker all of Marshalltown, IA; grandchildren; Zach Oetker of Des Moines, IA; Cassie Amans of Miami, FL; Dustin Amans of Waverly, IA; Jeremy Amans of Marshalltown, IA; and sisters; Pat Wilkening of State Center, IA; and Avelino Lynk of Iowa City, IA. In death Mick rejoins his wife, Pat and parents, Frank and Frances, sisters; Dorothy Dungy, Monica Rebik, Agnes Oetker, brothers; Omer Oetker and Cletus Oetker.
