Michael Chaplin

Michael Chaplin, 75, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 14, 2022 at Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

Michael was born on December 6, 1946 to Merle Edward and Mary Ruby (Dalton) Chaplin in Marshall County, Indiana. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Viet Nam era.

After meeting the love of his life, Diane Kuchenreuther, they were united in marriage on November 2, 1970, in Colorado Springs, CO. Michael was a skilled craftsman by trade and hobby. He started his own business Chaplin Insulation and Roofing and later retired from RD Stewart Construction. He built their home and had a deep passion for woodworking- his family called him “Grandpa Builder.” In his free time, he enjoyed watching Westerns, especially Gunsmoke and M.A.S.H. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 52 years, Diane; his children: Michael Chaplin of Marshalltown, Stephanie (Boomer) Landt of Melbourne and Nick Chaplin of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren: Keely, Jacy, Macy (Nate), Natalie, Gracie, Hayden and Owen; his siblings: Randy (Ruthie) Chaplin of French Lick, IN, Shirley Crowe of French Lick, IN, Wanita June Butts of Paoli, IN, Carl (Louise) Raymond of Paoli, IN and several nieces and nephews.

In eternal life he is reunited with his parents, Merle and Mary and his siblings: Charles, Troy, Howard, Jack, Harry, Nina, Joe and Larry.

Graveside services will be on Saturday, November 19th, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the Marietta Cemetery with full military honors provided by the combined VFW/American Legion of the surrounding area. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice Home, 502 Plaza Heights Rd., Marshalltown.
