Michael Dale Holubar, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on November 13, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia at the age of 74.
Born on December 7, 1950, at Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of Dale and Louise (Welt) Holubar. He grew up on his family farm near Marshalltown, Iowa, graduating from LDF in Le Grand in 1969. On May 12, 1973 he married Susan Lenhart, and together they raised their daughter, Jayme. Though later divorced, they remained friends. Mike later met the love of his life, Sandra Verros Chamberlain, and the couple was united in marriage November 11, 1994. Michael’s professional journey began early alongside his dad on the farm. He was employed at the Times-Republican before working at Fisher Controls, where he started as a factory scheduler and went on to work in the parts department. He then enjoyed a meaningful career at Farmers Savings Bank at the Green Mountain, Beaman and Marshalltown branches, as a loan officer and Vice President of Collections before retiring. Additionally, he worked part-time at various funeral homes for 30+ years, including Estel-Perrin, Anderson Funeral Home, Dobie Funeral Home in Tarpons Springs, FL, and most recently Mitchell Family Funeral Home.
Mike loved having fun and had a zest for life that never stopped. Those who knew him remember his ever-present smile and sense of humor.
Family was everything to Mike, he especially loved vacations spent with extended family at the cabins at Roy Lake, Minnesota, a place that inspired his love for the outdoors. He was devoted to attending and supporting his daughter and grandchildren's sporting events, and was so proud of their accomplishments.
In his leisure time Mike enjoyed any kind of car races, especially drag racing, as well as hunting, fishing, camping, boating, the Iowa Hawkeyes, spending time with friends and family, and the beauty of nature. He loved attending and watching sporting events, cheering on the Hawks sometimes over the phone with his buddies during the games. He enjoyed history, air museums and zoos.
He enjoyed all things cars, from his high school hot rods, to car shows, Mecum Auctions, attending NHRA, NASCAR and other races with friends, and just about any car rebuilding show made. He loved the escapades of the “Three Amigos” motorcycle “Man Rides” that took them from one end of the country to the other, earning him the coveted Iron Butt Patch for riding 1,000 miles in 24 hours.
Michael's passing leaves behind a profound void in the lives of all who loved him, including his beloved wife, Sandra Holubar; daughter, Jayme (Brad) Wilkening; stepdaughter, Tenah (Art) Muro; grandchildren: Kyla (Zack) Bieri, Andrew Kennedy (Ashley), and Elizebeth Kennedy (John); his brother, Jim (Patti) Holubar and sister, Linda (Jerry) Evans, Aunt Betts, nieces, nephews and many, many cousins and friends. Mike is now reunited with his parents, grandparents and all those who’ve gone before him, including his precious pets Mysti and Gracie Ray.
