Michael Horyn

Michael Joseph Horyn, 74, entered into eternal life Monday, September 4, 2023 at Eldora Care Initiatives. Mike was born November 4, 1948 in Portland, Oregon, the son of Joe & Bea Horyn. He graduated Tigard High School in 1966. Mike and his former wife, Dixie Welch, had a son, Michael. Mike enlisted and served honorably in the U.S. Army. He served 18 months in Vietnam during 1968-69 where he received the Purple Heart. He served proudly and was honorably discharged in 1969. He carried this pride all his life. After his military service, he returned to Tigard, Oregon where he worked for Chrysler. Mike was married to Debbie Ficek from 1974 to 1998 and they had a daughter, Michelle. In 2010, Mike married Laura (Nesbitt) Lister, a former high school classmate, and they made their home in Aberdeen, Washington.

Mike enjoyed off-roading, racing his 4-wheel drive vehicles, and was an avid hunter in his younger days. He relished his time riding and working on his Honda Goldwing. In 2016, Mike and Laura settled in Marshalltown, Iowa to be closer to his family. Mike battled hard and lost the fight to lung cancer.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ida Beatrice, and brothers Philip and Paul. He is survived by his wife, Laura, Aberdeen, WA; son, Michael (Sarah) Brown, Washougal, WA; daughter, Michelle (Andy) Morris, Prosperity, SC; nieces and nephews; two grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren; and his sister, Julianne (Paul) Packer, Marshalltown, IA.

A private family led memorial service will be held at a later date.
