Michael Craig Kuhl, 76, of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Funeral services for Michael will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service; beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Michael “Big Mike” Kuhl was born on February 23, 1949 in Marshalltown. He was the son of Richard and Geraldine (Pfantz) Kuhl. Michael graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1967. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1969 until 1971. Michael retired from the United States Postal Service in 2004, and had previously owned the Old Timer Tavern in Marshalltown. Michael was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. He was an avid golfer at Lincoln Valley golf course, attending the VFW and their fish fry, and enjoyed racing horses. He was active in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and enjoyed playing softball. He knew no stranger, and could talk to anyone, and nobody was above or beneath him. Above all else, Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Michael is survived by his children: Chris Kuhl of Ames, Michael (Olivia) Kuhl of Clive and Nick (Heidi) Kuhl of Waukee. Grandchildren: Jaxson, Rowan, Halen, Kira, Camryn and Atticus. He is also survived by his mother: Geraldine; siblings: Steve Kuhl, Connie (Gary) Long and Ronnie Kuhl along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Michael is preceded in death by his father: Richard and other family.
