Michael Kurth

Michael M. Kurth, 80, of Marshalltown died August 12th, 2024.

Mike was born August 23, 1943 in Marshalltown, to Henrietta Fern Woollard and Merlin L. Kurth. Mike spent his early years in Marshalltown schools. In 1960, Michael joined the Navy and was trained in San Diego, CA, and was stationed at the Naval Air Station in MS. After being discharged, he returned to Marshalltown and in 1963 was wed to Wava Phipps. To this union were born four children. Michael worked for JBS Swift & Co. for 39 1/2 years and spent many years breaking and training horses.

Michael is survived by his wife, Wava of 61 years of Marshalltown; his daughter, Dawn (Tim) Minard of Keota, IA; Doug Kurth of Marshalltown; Travis (Denise) Kurth, of Bennington, NE. Also, survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great- grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Michael was proceeded in death by his parents; a daughter Wendy in infancy; a brother, James Kurth; sister, Barbara Ohrt; brother Steven Kurth; and his dog, Millie.
