Mike Martin 54, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away Monday, December 24, 2012 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center surrounded by his loving family and close friends.Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. As per the familys request, please wear casual sports attire. He was the son of Larry Martin and Rosemary Kelderman and attended school in the Marshalltown Community School District graduating with the class of 1976. On September 9, 1977, Mike was united in marriage to Patty Lakey. They had lived most of their married life in Marshalltown. Mike had worked for the Marshalltown School District as a school bus driver and Mike and Steve Nordstrom had owned a lawn care business The Lawn Patrol. He had been a member of the local Teamsters Union. Mike loved football, the Green Bay Packers, his Trans-Am cars and was always ready to cheer on his Bobcats of Marshalltown. He enjoyed the outdoors planting fruit trees and hostas, but Mikes biggest pride and joy was his wife, children and grandchildren.Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 35 years, Patty, his children: Dwight Martin (Sherry Perkins), Lindsey Martin (Austin Reed) and Trent Taylor all of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Andrew Richeson and Addison Reed; his father, Larry Martin, sister, Susan (Dave) Bond of Marshalltown and a host of family and friends.In death, Mike rejoins his mom, Rosemary and a son, Scott Martin and grandmother Mildred McComber.
