Michael John Newberg

Michael “Mike” Newberg, 51, of Gretna, Nebraska, and formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa went to be with his Lord and Savior on the evening of Sunday, November 15, 2020, in the comfort of his home with his family at his side. Mike had battled cancer for the past two years with grace and dignity- always concerned about his family above himself.           Services for Mike will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown (director is Mike’s childhood friend he grew up with). Care for Mike and his family have been entrusted to the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.           Michael John Newberg was born April 10, 1969, to parents Merlyn and Eunice (Delay) Newberg in Marshalltown, Iowa. After his parents divorced, Mike resided with his dad. Later, his dad was united in marriage to Carol Moats and this brought together a blended family of nine children. He attended school in Montezuma and Marshalltown, Iowa, (Roger’s Elementary and Miller Jr. High) and graduated from Montezuma High School as part of the Class of 1987.           In 1988, Mike met the love of his life, Kellie Jones, and together they began their lives raising three children together. On March 5, 2011, they were united in marriage. He worked in the Omaha area installing garage doors for Premier Garage Door Solutions and drove limousine for a livery service.         Mike was a member of the Papillion Eagles Club. In the summer of 2020, he and his brother Mark made a journey to Sturgis to the world famous bike rally. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, watching Husker football, cooking, being a member of the Eagles and helping others. He dearly loved the holidays and was looking forward to this year with family- his biggest treasure of all. Mike was a wild one growing up, but was dearly loved by all who knew him.           Left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years Kellie Newberg; his children Appria Newberg of Gretna, NE, Alli Newberg of Omaha, NE and Adin Newberg of Gretna, NE; his grandchildren - Makenlee Jo Newberg of Gretna, NE and granddaughter #2 due in December; his siblings, Marsha (Albert) Johns of Montezuma, IA, Todd (Melinda) Moats of Duncan, SC, Kirk (Patty) Moats of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Jo Newberg of Montezuma, IA, Kim (Emilio) Zapata of Tama, IA, Mark (Lori) Newberg of Lynnville, IA, alongside many precious nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings from his dad’s marriage to Sharon - Clayton (Andrea) Zednichek and Tracey (David) Berendes and their three children as well as many aunts and uncles Mike so highly thought of.           He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlyn Newberg and Eunice Delay; his step mothers Carol Newberg and Sharon Newberg; his siblings Marilyn Newberg and Curtis Kumbier; and his grandparents, Maxwell and Myrble Newberg, Elwood “Shorty” and Ethyl Williams and Jack and Doris Delay.
