Michael Pappas

Michael Steven Pappas, 55, of Plattsburgh, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri.

A Celebration of Life for Michael will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Michael Pappas was born on October 15, 1967 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Gus and Ruth Ann (Bean) Pappas. Michael was a graduate from Marshalltown High School where he was the manager of the football and wrestling teams. He had worked at Goodwill and the Haverhill Social Club. Michael loved sports, and was great with sports statistics. He loved documenting all kinds of information; even the Encyclopedia Britannica. Mike enjoyed going to the Marshalltown Speedway to watch Dan Fetters race, and was a good friend to Dan and Deb Fetters. Mike loved playing video games and in the last few years, that was the only thing that he could do. He had many great friends that he loved to stay with when he visited Iowa; like Shawn and Shelly Ecklor who cared for him for many years and were so good to him; Mike’s distant cousin; John Pieters and wife Missy Sharer Pieters; and Joel and Carrie McDowell. Mike enjoyed spending time with the McDowell children: Brayden and Mickelle as well as Norma Dannen who Mike stayed with while he finished high school and who was an excellent role model for him.

Mike is survived by his siblings: Diane Pappas Lochner, and her daughter Gabrielle Rowland and her children Ariyah and Rohyn; son: Derek Lochner and his son Harrison; son: Triston Lochner; and daughter Trinity Holmquist and her daughter Ivy. He is also survived by step-siblings: Jim and Agnes Crabtree and their family: Steven and Rosemary Crabtree, Deb Reuter and her husband Jon and family as well as his step-mother Bonnie Pappas.

Michael is preceded in death by his mother: Ruth Ann, father: Gus and grandmother: Opal Fish.
