Michael Ruth

Michael “Mike” Ruth, 77, of Marshalltown, Iowa, went to be with his Lord and Savior on the evening of September 4, 2024 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa with his wife at his side.

A family-led service for Mike will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Michael Wayne Ruth was born November 18, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the only child born to Carl and Alberta (Sowers) Ruth. Mike attended school in Columbus, Ohio where he received his High School Diploma from Columbus High School in 1965.

Mike was married to his first wife Gloria. From this union he had two children Rhonda and Michael. He worked for Lennox Industries in their Columbus location. He and Gloria remained married until the time of her passing. In 1993, the Columbus location of Lennox closed down and he relocated to Marshalltown, Iowa. After moving to Marshalltown, Mike met his future bride, Lois (Peterson). They were united in marriage on June 5, 2005. From this union came a blending of families and he welcomed in Scott and Sara into his family. He continued working in the manufacturing department, retiring after 40 years of service to the company in 2008.

Mike was active within Fellowship Baptist Church in Marshalltown. He served as an assistant coach in basketball for CICA (Central Iowa Christian Academy). Additionally, he did active work for the church when he was able to do so. Alongside with his wife Lois, they hosted at their home a Karen bible study and he would drive the church bus around to pick up those who needed a ride. In his younger years, he was involved on various bowling leagues within the Columbus, Ohio area. With his bowling leagues, he had scored 300 on multiple occasions and the special occasion marked with a ring. He also lived and breathed sports. Mike loved watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Iowa Hawkeyes. If neither one of those teams were playing, he would find some game to watch regardless. His greatest joy in life by far was being a grandpa and great-grandpa. He spent as much time as he could with them.

Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lois Ruth; his children, Michael Ruth, Scott (Chantilly) Brimmer and Sara Brimmer; his grandchildren, Tanaia (Mark) Babcock, Anna (Cody) Cook, Josie (Josh) Brimmer, Jack (Samora) Brimmer and Joniz Brimmer; and his great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Bennett, Alayna, Leela, Theodore, Freya and Richard.

In eternal life, he is rejoined with his daughter, Rhonda Sergent; parents; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
