Michael "Egg" Van Egdom

Michael “Egg” Van Egdom, age 71 of Montour, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at his home.

Michael Leon Van Egdom was born on March 23, 1955, in Grinnell, the son of Elmer and Charlotte (Lawrence) Van Egdom. He graduated from South Tama County High School. Michael worked as a custodian at South Tama County Junior High School and more recently at Mid-Iowa Workshop.

Michael was a faithful member of the Marshalltown Church of Christ. He loved to attend church and being active in church events, visiting and talking on the phone with friends and family, and going fishing. He enjoyed having a good laugh while watching cartoons, some of his favorites were The Three Stooges, Looney Tunes, Emergency, and Star Trek. Michael had a special place in his heart for animals, often working with cattle. He was kind of like Inspector Gadget, always having gadgets readily available and knowing where to find them if needed. He often carried chains with keys and flashlights in his pocket, and always had a trusty plier on hand.

Michael was a miracle and a blessing to many. He was always caring and loving to those around him. Michael was interested in what other people had interest in and how he could be involved and lend a hand.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Mike Dilly, special sister Robbie Vokoun; along with extended family members and friends. In death, Michael rejoins his parents: Elmer and Charlotte; paternal grandparents: Antonie and Alice Van Egdom; maternal grandparents: Earnest and Cassie Lawrence; along with several cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 28, 2026 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 27, also at the funeral home. There will be a luncheon at the funeral home, followed by a burial at Riverside Cemetery.
