Michael Scott Whetstine

Michael “Mike” Whetstine, age 68 of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Michael Scott Whetstine was born on February 6, 1958, in Marshalltown, the son of Richard “Dick” and Dolores (Dunham) Whetstine. He graduated from Marshalltown High School and Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.

Mike was kind to everyone he met, never meeting a stranger. He was so proud to be a dad and a grandpa. Mike enjoyed his time spent tinkering on antique car restoration, all kinds of Chevy vehicles, four-wheelers, and motorcycles. If it had wheels and went fast, he was interested. Mike also enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing.

In death, Mike is reunited with his father, Dick; paternal and maternal grandparents; and his brothers, Kevin and Mark. He was loved in life and now death by Dolores Whetstine, Dylan (Hemili) Whetstine, Jan Zatovich, Katelyn Zatovich, and Darla Fanton.

Mike’s request was to be cremated and have no services. He will be laid to rest with his father and brothers at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Memorial donations may be directed to the family.
