Michael "Mike" Wood

Michael Walter “Mike” Wood, age 84, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on February 23, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born February 15, 1942, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Jim and Gracie Wood, Mike grew up in Blakesburg and graduated from Blakesburg High School.

Mike married Marietta Wood on April 16, 1961. In 1964, they moved to Marshalltown, where they built a loving home, raised their family, and shared 54 years of marriage until Marietta went to heaven. After her passing, Mike later married Carolyn Wood on June 30, 2018, and they shared companionship and care until her passing.

Mike worked hard throughout his life. He spent many years as a full‑time inspector at Fisher Controls, from which he retired, and also worked as a part‑time farm hand. He was known for his steady work ethic, reliability, and willingness to help others.

In his younger years, Mike enjoyed bowling, and throughout his life he loved line dancing, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending time with his family. He was an active member of Center Street Baptist Church, where he faithfully drove the church van for many years, ensuring others could attend services and activities.

Mike is survived by his children: Melissa (Rollie) Kane, Marcus (Elisa) Wood, and Marcia (Chris) Krull; his grandchildren: Sean (Sammi) Kearney, Lucas and Elijah Kane, Jacob, Natalie (Ethan Swanson), Isaac (Nola Dale), and Isabel Wood, Lane (Shelby) Nelson, Madison (Brayden) Peterson, Zachary (Lenah Hood) Krull, his great‑grandchildren: Leah Kearney, Atley Swanson, Christian Wood; his brothers: Jim (Tootsie) Wood and, Bob Wood; Carolyn’s children and grandchildren; and his special friend Charlotte Wood.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Gracie Wood; his spouses, Marietta and Carolyn Wood; and his grandchildren Drew Nelson and Isaiah Eilander.

He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his gentle humor, his love of community, and the steady, dependable presence he offered to all who knew him.

Per Mike and his family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.
