Upon his military retirement, they returned to Iowa and he worked as a post master in Parkersburg and Marshalltown. He retired in 2015. He and Deborah celebrated 45 years of marriage before her passing in 2017. In his free time, Mike enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and watching westerns. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and liked to pass the time working on cars. More than anything else, he loved spending time with his family, always joking and making them laugh.
