Michael Frank Moehrl, 74, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on February 1, 2016, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at St. Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016, at St Henrys Catholic Church with a 7:00 p.m. vigil. Memorials may be directed to St. Francis Catholic School in Marshalltown, Iowa or St. Thomas Aquinas in Ames, Iowa. Michael Moehrl was born on August 23, 1941, in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was the son of James and Dorothea (Krier) Moehrl. He attended school at St. Marys and graduated with the Class of 1959. He went on to attend Loras College and Iowa State University graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. On November 27, 1965, Mike was united in marriage to Barbara Flickinger at Saint Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They later divorced. Mike served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1965 until 1967. Mike had been employed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. He was later Marshall County Engineer, Vice President of RACOM and ran his own business, Moes Appaloosas & Trailer Sales. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Iowa County Engineers Association, Sigma Phi Epsilon and served as past President of Lions Club. He loved his horses, Iowa State Cyclones, fishing, hunting, and his relationships with friends and family. Mike had an amazing ability to connect with people. He always held his head high, found ways to help others, and focused on what he could accomplish in the face of challenges. He was an inspiration to many, deeply loved, and will be missed greatly; a truly amazing person. Mike is survived by his children, Kelly (Kirk) Glawe of Carlisle, Iowa and Christopher (Melissa) Moehrl of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, six grandchildren, Kallen, Carter , Ben, Sydney, Dorothy and Judah, sister, Marilynn (Tiny) Schmidt, a host of extended family, friends, caregivers, and his faithful Labrador, Joey. In death, Mike rejoins his parents, James and Dorothea, and sister, Mary Ann Gardner.
