Michael Thaddeus Smolik was born on November 25, 1961 in Keokuk, Iowa. He was the oldest of four children born to Thaddeus “Ted” and Jane (Ferris) Smolik. Mike grew up in Clinton, Iowa where he graduated from high school in the class of 1980. Mike honorably served his country in the United States Armed Forces for 20 years.

Mike later met the love of his life, Carol Edwards and they were united in marriage on February 14, 1998. Mike and Carol had one son, Michael and helped raise his two step-daughters Edie and Rae Ann as his own. He spent numerous years working maintenance and welding for John Deere in Ankeny, Iowa. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 450 and Journey Church.

In his free time, Mike was a fisherman through and through. He enjoyed being out in the outdoors and ice fishing in the winters. In addition, he enjoyed his travels to Colorado to go hiking and camping and looked forward every year to working on his garden and working on the yard and other landscaping. He had his craftiness and worked frequently on metal artwork making sculptures. Outside of that he loved to work out, go for bicycle rides on the trails, play frisbee golf and prank anyone that he got the chance to.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Carol Smolik; his son, Michael Smolik and step-daughters, Edie (David) Glenn and Rae Ann Pierce; step-grandchildren, Asher and Noah Glenn; his mother, Jane Smolik; his siblings, Sheryl Smolik, Susan (Neal) Pinkston, and Mary (Brett) Smolik-Brown; numerous nieces and nephews and his furry four-legged companion Puma.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ted Smolik; his father-in-law, Wayne Edwards.
