Mike W. Weitzell

Michael W. “Mike” Weitzell, 73, of Le Grand, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 2, 2021 under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice of Des Moines at Southridge Specialty Care. Funeral services for Mike will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon on Thursday, May 6 at 11:00 A.M. A visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, May 5 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Born May 7, 1947 in Marshalltown, Michael was the only son of Ronald and Rachel (Hoeppner) Weitzell. He grew up in Marshalltown, graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1965. After meeting the love of his life, Linda Gummert, they were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon on June 16, 1973. They are still faithful members of Trinity. Mike and Linda were inseparable and he was a wonderful husband and father. He had a great work ethic and was always supportive of his family in any endeavors. Family was everything to Mike and he especially enjoyed spending time with his three granddaughters. He also enjoyed nature and birdwatching and he was a Boy Scouts of America troop leader for many years. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 47 years, Linda; his daughter, Jenny (Christopher) Jones; his three beautiful granddaughters: Taylor, Kate and Rachel Jones; sisters-in-law: Elaine Crouse and Karen Campbell; nephew Robert (Hallie) Crouse, niece: Ann (Chad) Plowman and great nieces and nephews: Whitaker and Clara Crouse and Cole and Riley Plowman. In death, Mike is reunited with his parents, inlaws, Robert & Lillian Gummert and his brother-in-law, Donald Crouse.
