Mildred C. Coughlin Blink, 96, of Marshalltown, was called to her heavenly home on the morning of Wednesday, February 2, at the Villa del Sol in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 26, at St. Marys Catholic Church with Father Jim Miller officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 25, with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born Mildred Clara Martha Carpenter on January 9, 1915, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Clyde and Ella (Arts) Carpenter. She received her education in St. Marys School and later graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1934. Following graduation, Mildred began working for the telephone company in Marshalltown.On July 8, 1937, she was united in marriage to William Coughlin at St. Marys Catholic Church. They made their home in Marshalltown. Mr. Coughlin passed away on March 24, 1972. On October 26, 1974, she was united in marriage to Bernard Benny Blink in Cedar Falls. The couple also made Marshalltown their home.Mrs. Blink was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and the Ave Maria Study Club serving as one of its founding members and president. She enjoyed her home, crocheting, traveling and treasured her family. Left to cherish her memory are her children Joan Coughlin Studts of Marshalltown and John Coughlin in Colorado, daughter-in-law Kaye Trumpp Coughlin, five grandchildren and their families: Dr. Jamie (Tina) Studts, Shannon and Cait of Lexington, Kentucky, Dr. Joey (Margot) Studts, Martin and Anna in Germany, Janna (Derek) Studts Wirth, Samantha and Bailey of Madison, Wisconsin, David (Mary) Coughlin , Claire and Danny all of Marion, Iowa, and Mark Coughlin of Denver, Colorado, her husband Benny Blink of Glenwood Place and his children Janice, Phil and Kathy and their families as well as many nieces and nephews.In death, Mildred rejoined her husband William, sisters Louise, Virginia and Mary Jane, brother James and her parents.
