Mildred Burns

Mildred Burns, 92, of the Hillcrest Home in Geneseo, Ilinois, died there on Sunday, December 1, 2013. Millie was a former Marshalltown resident. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the services. Memorials may be made in her honor to the Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown or the Hillcrest Home at 41688 Illinois Highway #82, Geneseo, Ilinois, 61254. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born Mildred Beck on June 11, 1921, at Montour, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles and Dora Ardella (Harvey) Beck. She graduated from the Montour High Schools Class of 1940. On Christmas Eve of 1941, she was united in marriage to Richard William Burns at the Congregational Church by the Rev. Trickey. They made their home in Marshalltown beginning in a small apartment and then a house. She was employed at Marshall Manufacturing and later Coopers, then Fisher Controls for 20 faithful years, retiring in 1984. Mrs. Burns was a member of the UAW Retirees, Moose Lodge, and Senior Citizens, and enjoyed dancing, traveling, politics, crocheting, bowling, and golfing. She would do anything for you and enjoyed seeing people laugh-- and her jokes were able to make people do that. Mildred was blessed with her children: Sharon Burns of Laurel, Richard D. (Shirley) Burns of Cambridge, Illinois, and Dennis R. Burns of Maple Grove, Minnesota; her eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In death, Mildred rejoined her beloved husband, Richard Burns, who died on February 16, 1988; and her siblings: Myrle Holmes, Lawrence Beck, Richard Beck and Orland Beck.
