Mildred Gummert

Mildred E. Gummert, age 100, of Conrad, formerly of Marshalltown, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at the Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 5th at the Iowa River Church of the Brethren Cemetery, rural Marshalltown. No public visitation is planned. Mildred was born on October 8, 1919 in Grand Island, NE, the daughter of Frank and Ethel (Willits) Wood. At a young age, her family moved to this area where Mildred attended and graduated from the Le Grand High School with the Class of 1937. She was united in marriage to Ernest Gummert and the couple was blessed with four daughters. In addition to being a loving mother and homemaker, Mildred had worked as a custodian for the City of Marshalltown and as a waitress at the Tremont Grill. She loved to go camping and always enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, AZ and Padre Island, TX. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Phyllis (Larry) Mick, Maureen (Richard) Loney, Linda (Gary) Kirchgatter and Mary Jo (Gary) Shetler; her grandchildren: Stacy Robbins, Brett (Gaye) Butler, Roxanne (Andrew) Trasper, Meagan Shade, Rodney (Wendy) Loney, Bridget Loney, Troy (Susan) Dixon, Trent (Raquel) Dixon, Loren Shetler, Aaron Shetler, Julie (Steve) Gauthier and Monica (Alan) Donaldson; four great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. In eternal life, Mildred has been reunited with her parents; her husband, Ernest; three sisters: Phyllis, Evelyn and Mary, and her brother, Lester.
