Mildred Katzer

April 10, 1929 — June 30, 2014

Mildred Millie Katzer, 85 of Grandview Heights Nursing and Rehab Center formerly of rural Conrad, Iowa passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014. Millie resided in the Oakview Nursing Home for seven years previously. The family will be holding a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. at the Alice Church of God on Thursday, July 3, 2014. (Ph. 641-844-1234) Mildred Maxine Smith was born on April 10, 1929, in Indianapolis, Iowa; she was the daughter of Walter and Bessie (Strong) Smith. Millie graduated from What Cheer with the class of 1947. She went on to attend UNI (Teachers College) graduating in 1951. On July 25, 1954, Millie was united in marriage to Russell Katzer in Indianapolis, Iowa and had resided in rural Conrad their entire married lives. Millie had taught High school Math and Home Ec., in the Thornburg, Conrad, Legrand, and Beaman schools. Russell and Millie began married life with a small herd of milk cows. As a farm wife she plowed, hauled ear or shelled corn or whatever was needed to assist on the farm. She was a 4H leader for many years and a member of Alice Church of God. Millie enjoyed refinishing, making quilts, crocheting, and knitting. Every year the family picks up wagon loads of rocks so she collected the geodes. She was an expert cook/baker and will be remembered for her brownies, cinnamon rolls and meatballs. She always made time to walk on the gravel road with the farm dog. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 60 years, Russ of Conrad, Iowa, Children; Kevin(Jeanine) Katzer of Texas, Brett Katzer of rural Conrad, Iowa and Nancy Rodemann of Rockwell City, Iowa. Grandchildren: Heather (Ryan) Warren, Holly Katzer (Fianc, Blaine Arnold), Meagan Katzer, Kem (Jeromy) Magee, Crystal Rodemann, Rose Rodemann and Philip Rodemann. Great-grandchildren: Austin Warren, Aiden Warren, Conner Magee, Kaitlyn Magee, and her brother, Richard (Patty) Smith of What Cheer, Iowa. In death she rejoins her parents Walter and Bessie, Grandchildren, Jason and Gilbert and half- sister, Virginia.
