Milton Halbloom, 85, of Marshalltown passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at Grandview Heights Nursing and Rehab Center surrounded by his family.Milton Harvey Halbloom was born on December 30, 1926, to Adolph and Nettie (McKinney) Halbloom. He attended school in Laurel. He served his country honorably in the United States Army after being drafted out of high school in 1945 and was stationed in Alaska. In 1953, Milton was united in marriage to Merlene Vickery. His life was the farm as he enjoyed the land and took great pride in raising his cattle. In 1993, Milton had a debilitating stroke and fought a courageous battle for 19 years. Milton was a member of the American Legion Post #635 in Laurel for 50 plus years. He will be remembered for his cheerful, happy disposition, his love of working hard, his patriotism, and his love of his family.Left to cherish Miltons memory is his wife of 58 years, Merlene; his children: Marla (Roger) Johnson of Marshalltown, Melinda Halbloom of Melbourne, Marc (Andrea) Halbloom of State Center, and son-in law Rodney Oelmann of Marshalltown; nine grandchildren: Haley, Valerie, Eric, Jennette, Ruby, Brad, Conner, Kelsiann, and Alexander; six great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Kaitlyn, Asher, Lily, Greta and Grace; brother Edward Halbloom of Gilman; niece Jacquelyn Halbloom (Scott Murphy) of LaPorte City; nephews Richard (Phyllis) Atwood and Steve Atwood of Newton.In death Milton rejoins his parents Adolph and Nettie, his daughter Megan Oelmann, and his siblings Edith Atwood and John Halbloom.The family will be holding a private service.
