Molly L. (Collins) Ferrin, age 69, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the Iowa River Hospice Home.
A Catholic Funeral Mass for Molly has been scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2026, starting at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi–St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 P.M., also at St. Henry Catholic Church, with a vigil to follow. Memorials may be directed to the family for a future designation. Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Molly and her family. Molly Louise Collins was born on February 16, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Mike and Mary (Gallagher) Collins. She attended Regis High School in Cedar Rapids and continued her education at Loras College, where she specialized in Special Education. On June 8, 1985, Molly married her beloved husband, Dean Ferrin, in Marshalltown, Iowa, and together they welcomed two children who became the center of her world. Molly dedicated her life to Special Education, beginning her career in Forest City before spending 34 meaningful years teaching in the Marshalltown Community School District. After retiring, she continued sharing her gifts as a substitute teacher for three additional years. Molly was a devoted member of the music ministry at St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Outside of church, she found joy in reading, watching Wheel of Fortune, playing her guitar, and sharing time with her family. Molly also enjoyed collecting Trolls, rubber lizards, and dolls.
She is survived by her husband Dean; her children: Michael Ferrin of Marshalltown and Kathleen Ferrin of Iowa City; her brother Pat (Elaine) Collins of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Molly is preceded in death by her parents Mike and Mary; and her uncle Father John Gallagher.
