Mona Moore Schwarck, 86, longtime Union-Whitten grade school teacher, departed this life early in the morning of Sunday , December 6, at the Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 11th, at the Whitten Community Church with Pastor Jim Hartman officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Benson Cemetery at Whitten. Visitation will be held from 5 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, December 10th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Born Mona Frances Wilson on July 9, 1929 in Floyd County, Iowa; she was the daughter of S. Clifford and Maud Ada (Taylor) Wilson. She graduated high school in Rockford, Iowa and then received her teachers degree from Upper Iowa University in 1950. Mona later received her Masters Degree from Drake University in 1967. Mona was passionate about teaching and did so for 37 years before retiring. Her colorful career began in the Rockford schools for one year and the remainder in Eldora, Whitten (Union-Whitten and later BCL-UW). Even though she has two sons, she was blessed with hundreds of children! On November 25, 1950 she was united in marriage to James J. Moore at the Central Methodist Church in Charles City, which was later destroyed by the 1968 tornado. In January of 1994, James passed away. The next year, she moved to Union. On June 5, 1996 at the Little Brown Church, she was united in marriage to Victor Schwarck. They made their home in Union until moving to assisted living and further care in Conrad. Mona was a born teacher she had an incredible passion for it. In one of her moves, a cedar chest full of students notes and worksheets could be found because it was important to her. She enjoyed traveling, her boys sporting events, getting together with the retired teachers, eating popcorn on Sunday nights, and ice cream anytime! Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 19 years, Victor; her sons: Michael (Sonya) Moore of Whitten and Mark (Kim) Moore of Woodbury, MN; four grandchildren: Troy (Lacie) Moore of Conrad and their children Kamdyn and Paislee, Ashley (Rob) Hauser of Conrad and their children, Madison and Brooklyn, Jamie Moore of Woodbury, MN and Jessica Moore of Woodbury, MN. She was also blessed with Victors family his daughters, Vickii (Jerry) Ward of Des Moines and Jan Williams of Philadelphia, PA; son, Garry (Melinda) Schwarck of rural Eldora and four grandchildren: Matthew Ward of Des Moines, Michael (Shelly) Ward of Chicago, along with their children Parker and Wesley, Levi (Jill Schwarck of rural Steamboat Rock with daughter, Lily and Abbie (Michael) Shaw of Cedar Falls with daughter Hailey, as well as numerous other family and former students. In death, Mona rejoined her husband, James; her parents, brother, Robert Wilson, and half-brother, John Jannsen.
