Monte L. Baxa, 82, of LeGrand, currently residing at the Grandview Heights Care Center, died there early Monday morning, May 2, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.Funeral services for Monte will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 8, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. Their family lived in Abingdon for several years where Monte attended school and then later moved to Bristol, Tennessee, where Monte lived until meeting her husband Rudy. On July 31, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Monte was united in marriage to Rudy Baxa. Following their marriage they lived in the Cedar Rapids where Monte raised their family. They later moved to LeGrand and have resided there for the past twenty years. Monte enjoyed gardening, fishing and was a great southern cook. During her younger years she was active with horses and horseback riding. Above all Monte was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.Monte is survived by her husband Rudy Baxa of LeGrand, her children: Michael Eugene Baxa of Arizona, Donald Frank Baxa of LeGrand, Elaine Hope Baxa of LeGrand, Connie Sue (Greg) Baxa-Allspach of Parkersburg and Julie Ann (Thad) Baxa-Davidson of Elkhart, her siblings: Roy (Hazel) Widener of Bristol, Virginia, Lola Shelton of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Sammy Widener of Virginia and Dale (Hazel) Widener of Bristol, Tennessee, her eleven grandchildren: Mitchell Baxa, Melissa Baxa, Sandy Baxa-Zarp, Jacob Allspach, Miranda Allspach and Mackenzie Allspach, Nicholas Fuller, Aaron Bill, Joshua Bill, Broc Davidson, Ryan Davidson, her three great-grandchildren: Payton Zarp, Taylor Zarp and Koen Zarp, as well as several nieces and nephews. Monte was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Bud Widener, Frances Widener-Henry, George Widner, Bonnie Widener-Williams and Johnny Widener.
