Morris Lepley, age 83, lifelong Union area resident, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. A memorial visitation will be held from 4-6:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. The family would encourage casual attire. Born at the family home North of Union on August 11, 1935, Morris was one of four children born to Eugene and Olive (Akers) Lepley. He attended school through the 8th grade in Gifford and later graduated from the Union High School’s class of 1953. Morris began his working career at Lennox Industries in Marshalltown and then farmed with his brother, Joe, and also dairy farmed. He became a cemetery caretaker for numerous cemeteries in the Hardin/Marshall county areas. His children worked alongside Morris learning sod removal and hand-filling graves. Morris retired in 2006. He will be fondly remembered for his story-telling, pitching horseshoes and love of family (especially his grandchildren). Left to cherish his memory are Grace, his loving wife of 61 years, five children- Wanda Lepley of Eldora, Gary (Connie) Lepley of Conrad, Sheila (David) Ralston of Waterloo, Karla (Tom) Gear of Eldora and Pete (Amy) Lepley of Eldora; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, brother Joe Lepley of Union and sister Frances (the late Louis) Daubenmier of Scottsdale, AZ. In death Morris rejoined his parents, sister Lois Zimmerman, brother Wendell Warren Lepley and daughter-in-law Donna Lepley.
