Muriel Frey Finch, 80, of Lake Ponderosa, Montezuma, died Monday, October 22nd, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 26th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments immediately following the services. Burial rites will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Pleasant View Cemetery at Aplington. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born Muriel Frey on March 17th, 1927, in Austinville, Iowa, she was the daughter and only child of Harry W. and Johanna (Dekker) Frey. She graduated from the Aplington High School. She entered nurses training at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown as a Nurse Cadet, receiving her RN. Mrs. Finch was married to Roger Finch and to this union two sons were born. Muriel was a devoted nurse and health professional who retired in 1990 from the Iowa State Board of Inspections and Appeals as a nursing home inspector for facilities that provided services and housing for mentally challenged individuals. At this profession, she received the Employee of the Year Award. Before this time, she worked at a home in Johnston for mentally and physically challenged children and youth, the Iowa Veterans Home and the Woodward State Hospital in Woodward, Iowa. She was an active member of the 1st United Presbyterian Church in Montezuma and the leader of the womens bible study group, the Ponderosa Lake Association and enjoyed boating and the water, playing cards, her friends, family and family get-togethers at the Lake on the 4th of July and Labor Day. Left to cherish her memory is her sons, Steve (Lorna) Finch of Marshalltown, Doug (Mary) Finch of Pound, Wisconsin, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In death she has rejoined her parents.
