Myrna Savage

On Monday, December 14, 2020, Myrna G. Savage, 83, passed away due to complications of Parkinson’s disease. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt (great and great-great, too) and friend. Funeral services for Myrna will take place on Friday, December 18 at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, followed by burial at Rose Hill Memorial Garden. A visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 1:00 P.M. Attendees are required to wear masks and practice social distancing guidelines. Myrna was born on March 2, 1937, the daughter of Ernie and Ila (Aves) Vannatta. She grew up in Dillon, Iowa.  She attended the one-room schoolhouse in Dillon until 8th grade and later attended Legrand School graduating with the class of 1954. Myrna was united in marriage to David Savage on August 26, 1955. They had 65 happy years together. Myrna took some part-time work to help support the family and raise her children. She worked evenings at Gibson’s so she could be home with the kids during the day. She went back to school later in life and earned a Registered Nursing degree. She eventually settled into the visiting nurses and saw patients in their homes. She loved taking care of them. She retired in 1994. They immediately became “snow birds,” spending winters in the McAllen/Pharr, Texas area. While there, she volunteered at school working with children. She enjoyed winters in Texas. Myrna is survived by her husband, David; sons: Alan (Bobbie) and Jeff (Linda); daughter Deb Martin; grandsons: Kevin and Andrew Grabenbauer and Coty and Tim Savage; granddaughters: Stacy (Jaime) Sanchez and Kim (Dan) Gibbs; great-grandchildren: Amberly, Kailyn, Jessica and Alexander; great-greats: Cason, Colt, Cade and Charleston, due in February; brother Chuck (Karen) Vannatta; in-laws: Margaret Vannatta, Edward Savage, Kate (Gene) Hauptly and Nita Harre; numerous nieces and nephews (including greats) and cousins. She is preceded in death by her sister Donna and her husbands Ernie Hoge and Dean Crookshank; brothers: Donald (Barbara), Dan (Patsy) and James; in-laws: Paul (Shirley) Savage, Betty Savage, James (Phyllis) Savage, Chuck Savage, Irma Savage, Aina (Warren) Golly and Lawrence “Lou” (Joan) Savage.
