Born on July 12th, 1943, in Mitchellville, Iowa, she was the daughter of Elroy and Edna (Wolfe) Cruzan. She graduated from the Albion High Schools Class of 1961. On November 3, 1961, she was married to Fred Smoldt and on Valentines Day of 1986, she married Clair Taylor. At a dance, she was swept off her feet by the love of her life, Jerry Clark (who was introduced to her by her son, Ken). They shared many precious years together before marrying on April 14, 2006. They made Marshalltown their home and enjoyed wintering in the Valley in Texas. For 28 years, Jean faithfully cared for the residents and veterans at the IVH. She retired as a NUC (previously ward clerk) in 2002. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge and former Albion and Rhodes Eastern Star. She didnt really care what the activity was, as long as it included her family. The family game was Phase 10, as well as cards, cribbage and any others. She enjoyed camping, trips to Texas and traveling. Left to cherish her memory is Jerry, her loving husband, her children: Jeff (Alison) Smoldt of St. Louis, MO., Sandy (Todd) Dale of Gladbrook, Ken (Cindy) Smoldt of State Center, Brad (Denise) Smoldt of Gladbrook, and Ryan Clark of Marshalltown; 11 dear grandchildren- Adam (Chelsea) Dubois, Taylor Dubois, Ethen, Josh, Justin, Colton, Hunter, Lindsey and Sophie Smoldt, and Rylinn and Kasia Dale, her precious great-grandbabies Harper and Haven, her fur-baby JJ the Shih Tzu as well as her brothers- A.C.
