Nadena Joyce McDowell was born on November 23, 1933 to parents Peter “Pete” and Gladys (Foland) McDowell in Grand River, Iowa. She was the youngest of two children. Nadena attended school in Marshalltown and later graduated in the class of 1951. Following high school, Nadena worked for Fisher Controls as an administrative assistant until 1955.
On June 14, 1958, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Zuercher. Together they called Marshalltown their home and raised their two sons, Dirk and Dane. Family was her main priority and she made it a career to take care of them. This she did out of love for her family.
In her free time, Nadena spent time each month with her Fisher Controls Retiree group for their get together socials. She enjoyed working on sewing, cross stitch and needlepoint projects. Additionally, she loved to cook, work in her gardens, and birdwatching. She was fond of her animals that she cared for over the years and she absolutely loved to spend time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Nadena is survived by her husband Bill Zuercher; her sons, Dirk Zuercher and Dane (Liz) Zuercher; her grandchildren, Quinn (Ashley) Zuercher, Kody Zuercher, and Jake (McKinzie) Zuercher; and her great-grandchildren Killian and Clara Zuercher.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Gladys McDowell; her brother, Norman McDowell; and her sister-in-law Margaret McDowell.
