Nadine L Collins

April 2, 1922 — December 7, 2016

Nadine Collins, lifelong resident of Marshalltown and wife of the late Dr. Phillip Collins, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 in the morning of Wednesday, December 7th, 2016 at Central Iowa Healthcare in Marshalltown. A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the First Friends Church in Marshalltown. That is the month of her birth and anniversary of her marriage to her soulmate, Phil. Memorials may be made to the First Friends Church at 2409 South 6th Street, Marshalltown, IA 50158 or Tasks Unlimited at 2419 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55404. Nadine Collins was born on April 2, 1922 in Newton, IA to Clarence and Sara Reaugh (Rhodes) and moved to Marshalltown soon after that. She attended Marshalltown schools and graduated with the class of 1940. She married Phillip Collins on April 24, 1942 at the First Friends Church in Marshalltown and other than the war years, lived all of their married life in Marshalltown. She was a homemaker with her family being foremost in her life. They traveled extensively, always taking the family car on the road wherever they went. She and Phil enjoyed decades of socializing with many close friends, boating, fishing, golfing, and trips to Door County. Nadine was a birthright member of the Quaker Church, attending and participating in the First Friends Church in Marshalltown her entire life. She was also a member of numerous organizations including P.E.O. Chapter JU (past president), Twentieth Century Club (past president), Early American Glass Club, Central Iowa American Sewing Guild, Entre Nous (past president), Binford House Board of Directors, and two bridge clubs. She received an American Red Cross award for her Compassionate Friends service. Her memory will be held forever by her family, sons: Kent Collins and Mike (Joan) Collins both of Minneapolis, MN; grandsons: William Collins of Chicago, IL and Andrew (Jenny) Collins both of Minneapolis, MN; great granddaughters: Helen Nadine Collins and Clara June Collins, both of Minneapolis, MN, and survived by a multitude of friends in Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Reaugh, and husband Phillip Collins. The family wants to thank the following: Dr. Ron Terrill, Paul Barr, Jim Goodman, Marilyn Downs, and Rose Duffy for their expertise and assistance keeping all things important in order Marla Jones, Dave Grewell, Gordy Johnson, and Gary Davis for their help in maintaining her home the past six years The staff at the Central Iowa Healthcare Intensive Care Unit for their compassionate attention during her final 36 hours All her Marshalltown friends that as of late provided rides to all her events and were an irreplaceable part of her life She will be missed greatly by family and friends, an example of a life well lived.
