Our beloved mother and grandmother left this world on
Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the age of 83. She was a caring wife,
mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. During a
brief stay at Iowa River Hospice, JoAnn succumbed to pancreatic cancer. Family and friends were at JoAnn’s side to
honor her during her final days.
JoAnn was born to Harlan and Ruth (Coleman) Moody on
February 8, 1941, in Marshalltown. She graduated from Nevada
High School in 1958 and then moved to Marshalltown, where she met her husband, Dieter (1936-2022). They were married in
Marshalltown on December 26, 1959, and were married for 62
years. After living in Belleflower, California, they moved back to Iowa to be near their families and resided in Melbourne. JoAnn and Dieter were parents to Lorie (1963-1970) and Becky. JoAnn lived her last two years with Becky and Bob in State Center and she cherished the wonderful times spent with family there.
JoAnn was a faithful member of St. John United Church of
Christ where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of
Women’s Fellowship, and trusted friend to all. Decades of
activities and community outreach programs from St. John UCC
were embedded throughout JoAnn’s life, including helping to
start Crayonville Preschool and volunteering at House of
Compassion. JoAnn was an active member of Melbourne
Women’s Club and volunteered at the Marshalltown Hospital gift shop. She was recently welcomed to Melbourne 50+ Club and the State Center Trinity quilting group. JoAnn worked as a
paraeducator in the Marshalltown and West Marshall school
districts. JoAnn was blessed with two grandchildren, Jared and
Nicole. Being “Grandma Jo” was her favorite part of every day
and she loved watching her grandchildren play sports. JoAnn
tended her vegetable and flower gardens and she was known
for her daily walks through Melbourne.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Becky (Robert) of State
Center, grandson Jared (Ashley) of Bellevue, ID, granddaughter
Nicole of Tiffin, great grandson Coleson of Bellevue, ID, sister
Judy (Warren) of Loveland, CO, sister Janice (Midge) of Nevada.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her daughter Lorie, husband
Dieter, mother Ruth, father Harlan, brother Harlan Jr.
JoAnn’s kindness and love for her family and friends will be
remembered by all who knew her. Her inspiration continues on
through the lives of those she touched.
