Nellie Dee

Nellie E. Dee, 92, of State Center Nursing and Rehab Center, died of natural causes on June 18, 2007,Nellie Emily McClain was born February 21, 1915, in Graetinger, Iowa, to Samuel and Karen Pedersen McClain. She was the oldest of four daughters.Nellie graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1932 and the Evangelical Deaconess nursing school in 1936. She was a full time RN until she married Donald Dee on August 20, 1939, in Marshalltown.She helped Donald with their dairy operation until they started a family when she became a full time mother, wife, and homemaker. Nellie was the answering voice of the family purebred operation for over fifty years, and she thought livestock people were the greatest. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many wedding dresses for family and friends. She also baked and decorated wedding and anniversary cakes, which was a cherished accomplishment. Reading, weaving, crocheting, and knitting were her passions for relaxation.Nellie and Donald were active in various square dance clubs for many years. They both treasured the wonderful people they met while dancing around the state.Nellie is survived by two sisters, two sons, Eric (wife Jayne) of Northfield, Minnesota, and Allan (wife Chipper) of State Center, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and a sister.A private service is scheduled at a later date.
