Nellie "Nell" May Casterline

Nellie “Nell” Casterline, 86, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Central Iowa Veteran’s Hospital in Des Moines.    A memorial visitation for Nell will be held on Saturday, August 17 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Nell and her Family.    Nellie May Breuklander was born on November 9, 1932 to parents Fred and Esther (Rhodes) Breuklander in Lacy, Iowa. She attended school in the Oskaloosa School District and graduated high school. Upon graduation from high school Nellie served in the United States Navy followed by the United States Air Force where she met Jack Casterline. Nell married Jack on October 9, 1954 and the two raised two daughters Jackie Lynn Hoop of Marshalltown and Fay Nellene Schiebel of Ogden.    Nell worked at Borders Dairy when she first moved to Marshalltown. That was then followed by a long employment as a legal secretary with her latest being with the Rutherford/Bidwell Law Firm where she was still employed upon her illness. She was a very intelligent woman, kind and loved by all. She was also a member of the American Legion and an avid member of the Women of the Moose where she went through all chairs becoming Senior Regeant. Nell worked the Bingo games every Sunday and on Monday and Tuesday with other Women of the Moose members. Nell enjoyed visiting with her friends and playing cards, darts, and bowling when possible. Nell and her best friend Cleo Jordan got together many evenings after she got off work until Cleo’s passing. She enjoyed her family, her friends, and her grandchildren whom most resided with her.    Left to cherish her memory is her daughters Jackie (Jeff Hoop) and Fay Schiebel; three grandchildren Jennifer Hart of Chicago, Illinois, Amanda Speese of Marshalltown, and Abby Lingard of Marshalltown; great- grandchildren Cassidy and Sienna Speese, Anna, Elle, and Otto Lingard; as well as many nieces and nephews.    In death, Nellie rejoins her husband Jack; her mother and father Fred and Esther Breuklander; brothers Earl, Lloyd, Glen, and Gerald Breuklander; and nephew Harold Lloyd Breuklander.
