Nellie Temple, 98, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at10:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2016, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Nellie Temple was born on June 21, 1918, in Reasnor, Iowa; she was the daughter of John and Maggie (Van Genderen) Van Gorp. Nellie attended school in the area of her birth. On April 16, 1938, Nellie was united in marriage to Howard Temple in Marshalltown, Iowa. Nellie was a homemaker and was a member of the Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. She loved gardening, flowers, people coming to her house to have coffee, and enjoyed visiting others in the nursing home and always enjoyed being around children. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Linda (Dave) Billman and Madlyn Rathje both of Marshalltown, Iowa, grandchildren; Mandy Hurd, Brian Billman, Ryan Rathje, Kendra Rathje and Tyler Rathje, great-grandchildren; Lucas Hurd, Emalee Hurd, Ethan Billman, Gavin Billman and Abigail Rathje, brother, Virgil (Pat) Van Gorp . In death Nellie rejoins her parents, John and Maggie, husband, Howard, infant daughter, Wanda Kay, granddaughter, Heather Ellis, brothers, John (in infancy) Neal, Clarence, George, Delmar and sisters; Jennie Rule, Susie Hartford, Nettie Bavender, Marie Ost, Violet Edson, and Flossie Kline.
