Nicholas Nick Murty, 28, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marshalltown died Thursday, July 21, 2011 Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with Bobby Shomo officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorial may be directed to the family. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Nicholas and his family.Nicholas Duane Murty was born in Marshalltown on June 14, 1983. He was the son of Bill Murty and Linda (Lentner) Davis. He was baptized at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama. Nick attended high school in Marshalltown and later enlisted in the Navy. He moved to Cedar Rapids where he was employed with Mediacom. Nick loved the Hawkeyes, enjoyed his collection of over three hundred VHS movies, playing cards with family and friends, and NASCAR. Nick will be remembered for always giving hugs. He loved his family, friends, his cat Missy Murty, and most of all, his son Thomas Murty. He is survived by his son, Thomas Murty of Peosta, IA; his cat, Missy Murty; his father, Bill (Margee) Murty of Asbury, MO; his mother, Linda (James) Davis of Marshalltown, IA; his siblings: Aaron Hulin of Cedar Rapids, IA, Timbre Murty of Asbury, MO, Dayton Murty of Asbury, MO, and Tyrell Davis of Marshalltown, IA; his grandparents: Lawrence (Pat) Murty, Rebecca Murty, Bev Lentner all of Tama, IA; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.He is preceded in death by Grandfather Duane Lentner, his Uncles, Mike Gunter and Andy Suchanek, and great grandparents.
