Nona Mae (Wallen) Burrington, age 91 of Conrad, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Oakview Nursing Home.
Born Nona Mae Wallen on July 25, 1933 in Marshalltown, the daughter of Claude Avery and Violet Mae (Lents) Wallen. She graduated from Montour High School.
Nona was united in marriage with Harold Blessing, and from this union was one daughter, Candy. The couple later divorced.
Nona was united in marriage with Cliff Nichols, and she was blessed with a son, Bob and a daughter, Debbie. Cliff passed away.
Nona was united in marriage with Chuck Burrington, and they built their life together in Arizona for nearly 45 years. Nona and Chuck were baptized together at Fellowship Baptist Church in Marshalltown on November 5, 1972.
Nona had worked at Montgomery Ward, Dunham Bush and Clifton’s, all in Marshalltown; she also worked at Motorola in Arizona.
Nona was a talented organ player, from playing with Fletcher’s in the malls to the organ at her home that took up nearly half of her living room. She loved horses, attending swap meets in AZ, and playing mini golf up until a few years ago. Nona and Chuck enjoyed traveling together and dancing often, as well as never missed a Wednesday night or Cinco de Mayo at Serrano’s for margaritas. Nona loved country music; She was able to see Willie Nelson at the Arizona State Fair in 2019.
Nona was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Wallen and Violet (Clarence) Helin; her husbands, Harold Blessing, Cliff Nichols, and Chuck Burrington; her son, Bob Nichols; her sister, Betty Fleishauer; step-children, George (Jackie) Nichols and Pat (Richard) Armstrong; step-granddaughter, Susan Eldredge; and her dear dog, Tinkerbell.
Left to cherish Nona’s memory are her children, Candy (Doug) Judge and Debbie Nichols, all of Marshalltown; her grandchildren, Tom (Christine) Blessing, Kim Wells, Jeff (Stacey) Nichols, Nicole (Jake) Reynolds and Matthew Nichols; 9 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one on the way; her step-children, Oleta “Toots” Epperly, Buddy Burrington, Norman Waldo and Phyllis Schell; step-grandchildren, Julie Phillips, Mark Schell, Sam Armstrong, Billy Armstrong, Corrine Brown, Michelle Stier, Missy Keosoff, Beth Nichols; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and a niece and a nephew in Indiana.
Per Nona’s wishes, cremation rites have taken place. Family-led graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Memorial donations may be directed to the Animal Rescue League.
