Norma Jean Fast, age 83 of Marshalltown and formerly of Boone, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the Iowa River Hospice House.

Norma Jean Fast was born on October 2, 1943. In Des Moines, the eldest daughter of Carl and Erma (Steele) Fast. She graduated from Gilbert High School in 1961. Norma worked for Alden’s department store in Chicago and for many years at CDS Global in Boone until her retirement.

Norma was known as Sis by her family and many friends close to her. She was selfless and kind to everyone she came into contact with. Norma was an avid reader with quite the collection of books and Bibles. The world is a better place because of her kindness and love she gave to others. She was generous to both those she knew and those she didn’t know by helping with causes she felt deeply about. Her church and other organizations she felt spread the word of God to others, her love of children who have disabilities or illness, and animals that are being mistreated. If she knew someone who needed prayers, she would say one right on the spot, asking hope for their well-being.

She loved her country and was very patriotic. She liked the Bears football team and her family of bears she had on a chair in her apartment. She would even read the Bible aloud to them saying they need to know too. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, travelling when she could and just being outside. She was a curious person about a lot of things. Mostly she loved her God and her family. Being with them anytime was her joy. Good example for everyone. We will miss her until we meet again.

In death, Sis is reunited with her parents: Carl and Erma Fast; her great niece, Nora Browning; and great nephew, Gabriel Lamer. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters: Carol (Leon) Lamer and Elizabeth (Rick) Browning; niece and nephews: Mechiele (John), Monte (Pheu), Mark (Julie), Brian (Denise), and Dean (Rachael); great nieces and nephews: Sierra, Chase, Noah, Kasey, Justice, Shakayla, Sandreana, Alexandra, Kaitlyn, Katelyn, Emmett, and Evelyn; and great-great nieces and nephews: Alan, Kylie, Oakley, and Stetson.

Per Norma’s wishes, a private family graveside service will be held. She will be laid to rest at Gilbert Cemetery, north of Gilbert, Iowa. Memorial donations may be directed to the family for later designation to organization important to Sis.
