Norma Pfeil

Norma L. Pfeil, 86, formerly of State Center, Iowa and Worthington, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at the West Marshall Chapel in State Center, Iowa. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of donors choice. Norma was born on February 26, 1930 in Tracy, Minnesota to Lee and Leora (Phillippi) Leach. She lived on a farm until 1949. She married Merlyn Howard and moved to Currie, Minnesota, and later to Slayton, Minnesota. They had two daughters, Lori and Cheri. They later divorced. She then moved to Worthington, Minnesota, where she met and married Vern Pfeil. They had one daughter, Lisa. Norma worked briefly as a waitress, then 38 years for a janitorial service. She managed Ralphs Kitchen for 9 years before going to Hy-Vee, where she worked in the kitchen and bakery departments for 18 years. She retired in 1995. Norma moved to State Center, Iowa to be closer to her family. She had just recently moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Norma loved to sew for herself and her daughters. She canned everything she could, and had a passion for dancing, reading, watching TV, sitting by the lake, and walking. She is survived by her daughter Lisa (Jim) Scholl; a brother Jim (Joyce) Leach; four nephews, and a niece. Norma is also survived by nine grandchildren: Matthew (Tracy) Schroeder; Jennifer Smith; Joseph (Sarah) Colby; Amanda (Jesse) Winkel; Alex Colby; Heidi Scholl; Ashley Scholl; Alex Scholl; and Allison Scholl; 7 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her constant companion, Molly the cat. Norma wanted all her grandchildren to know that she loved them very much. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Florence; her husbands, Merlyn and Vern; two daughters, Cheri Howard and Lori Colby; and a nephew Mike.
