Norman D. Brockelsby, 86, of Grand Island, Nebraska, currently residing with his family in Marshalltown, died Friday, January 21, 2011, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Funeral services for Mr. Brockelsby will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 28, at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island, Nebraska. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 27, from 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m, at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, Nebraska.For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234.Norman was born January 15, 1925, in Manilla, Iowa, the son of Rupert Brockelsby and Georgia Disburg. He actively served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army. Norman was united in marriage to Frances Reed on February 24, 1957, in Genoa Nebraska. Norman worked as a research/product engineer for Dutton-Lainson Company and developed several patents during his employment. He founded the Norman Development Company and in his retirement he developed Normans Miniatures, a hobby in which he designed and built miniature gas engines.Norman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island, Nebraska, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the American Legion, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Husker Ultralight Club.Norman is survived by his wife Frances Brockelsby of Grand Island, Nebraska, his three daughters Ann (Howard) Perry of Marshalltown, Melinda (James) Crow of North Platte, Nebraska and Teresa (Loren) Sweley of North Platte, Nebraska, his ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George and his sister Gloria.
