He was the fourth born of nine children. He was raised in the Gilman/Dunbar community. He was a graduate of Le Grand High School Class of 1961. His senior class quote in his yearbook read, “When there is nothing better to do, I go to school.” In 1964, Norm enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he was united in marriage to Corisa Gail McIlrath in 1969. Together they welcomed their son Cory whom they raised together. The two later separated. Prior to his time in the service, he worked for Bigelow Liptack in Marshalltown. He also worked at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown. Norm moved to Colorado where he worked as an electrician for Coors Brewery and it was at this time while living in Colorado that he met the love of his life Christina Thorson. The two were united in marriage on March 27, 1985 in Denver Colorado. Once married they returned back to Gilman, Iowa and settled down. At this time, Norm was working for Maytag as an electrician and retired in 2005. In his free time, Norm enjoyed fishing, fast cars, and photography. He absolutely loved to spend time with his son Cory and his grandson Dante. He was always tinkering with some project around the house or looking to lend a hand to a neighbor who needed help. He will be loved and missed by many. Cory lost his best friend, his father. Left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife Chris Hulin; his son, Cory (Michelle) Hulin; grandson Dante Hulin; sister, Sharon (David) McCubbin; alongside numerous nieces and nephews.
