Norman Witte

Norman Dean Witte, 79, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad.


A Celebration of Life for Norman will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Norman Dean Witte was born on February 21, 1944 to Harold and Elithe Witte. Norm was born and raised in Melbourne, Iowa. He grew up farming with his parents and grandparents and had many fond stories of his childhood. After graduation, Norm started working at Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Marshalltown, starting on January 2, 1969 and retired number one in seniority in 2004 at the age of 60.


Norm had one child: Chad Witte in 1968. In his spare time, Norman loved fishing and camping at Twin Anchors Campground in Colo. He also, very much enjoyed building and racing hobby stock cars with his son, Chad. Every Friday night, Norm would be in the pits working on the race car and cheering him on. Later on, after retiring, Norm took up painting. He loved painting animals and cowboy scenes. He actually even sold a few here and there.


Norman is survived by his son: Chad (Jennifer) Witte, Grandchildren: Summer (Derek) Stanton and Jett Witte (Hannah), Chris and Aimee Wilkinson and kids, great-grandson: Afton James Stanton. He is also survived by his brother: Marion (Pat) Witte, along with many nieces and nephews.


Norman is preceded in death by his parents: Elithe and Harold; sister: Cheryl and his beloved dog: CoCo.
