Orville Steveson

Orville Roy Steveson, 92 Orville Roy Steveson, 92, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Grandview Heights. Memorial Services will be held on March 2, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 703 South 12th Street in Marshalltown, Iowa. The services will begin at 11 am. The family will be available at 10 am to greet family and friends. A light lunch will be served after the memorial services. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Orville was born on January 10, 1925 on a farm just west of Marshalltown; the son of Jay Lester Steveson and Alvina Regina Schnede Steveson. He was the seventh of eight children: Fern (Grewell), Ken, Vernon, Wanda (Miller), Donald, Gladys (Grammer), Orville and Marilee (Howell). He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters. Orville attended Marshall County rural schools and graduated from Marshalltown High School as well as the University of Iowa. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Army in the Philippines. Orville married Ruth Marie Carter on March 12, 1946 and they had three children: Larry Dean, Barbara Jane, and David Jay. They later divorced. He married Nancy Lee Acord on March 3, 1978 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Orville energetically pursued his sales and management career, retiring in 1988 after 20 years with Diamond-Vogel Paint. Following retirement he continued to work at service oriented occupations, and for many years volunteered as spiritual care giver at the Central Iowa Healthcare. He loved people, assisting others, gardening, and he could fix just about anything. Orville was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the scriptures and served in many capacities including Bishop of the Marshalltown Ward. Orville was a fun and a loving husband as well as a compassionate father and grandfather. He loved his family and they brought him his greatest joy. Orville and Nancy spent all of their vacation time traveling many miles to visit children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Steveson of Marshalltown; daughter Barbara (Steve) Taylor of West Fargo, ND; sons Larry (Colleen) and David (Joanne) both of Draper, Utah; 17 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
