Oscar Eugene Gene Shore, 83, of Marshalltown, passed away Friday, December 14, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with his son-in-law, Rustin Claypool officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors by combined American Legion Frank Lewis-Glick Post #46 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839. Born on January 21, 1929, at New Providence, Iowa, he was the son of Calvin Rocket and Cora Lee (Motsinger) Shore. He received his education in the Albion Schools. Soon after, he served our country honorably in the United States Army in the Korean War. On February 6, 1960, he was united in marriage to Barbara Hill-Morgan in Falls City, Nebraska. They made their home in Marshalltown where he retired from the water treatment plant. Gene enjoyed fishing, golfing and time with friends at the American Legion, but most of all his family. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Julie (Ed) Smith of Waukee and son-in-law, Rustin Claypool of Carlisle, grandchildren: Dylan Claypool of West Des Moines, Alan (Michelle) Butler of West Des Moines, Nyle (Desiree) Claypool of Bondurant and Taylor Claypool of Des Moines; his sisters: Martha (Lowell) Keeler and Virginia (Chuck) Sloat all of Marshalltown, sister-in-laws: Mary Jean Shore and Betty Shore both of Marshalltown, his special friend Joanne Snyder of Waterville, MN, and many nieces, nephews and friends. In death, he rejoined his parents, beloved wife Barbara, daughter, Shelly Claypool, son, Alan Morgan, brothers: Lawrence Red Shore and Bill Shore and two nephews: Doug Sloat and Paul Shore.
