Pamela Kacer, 66, of Toledo, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A celebration of life for Pam will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The family requests that you dress casual. Burial will be on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either the National Kidney Foundation or to the American Cancer Society. Pamela Rae Kacer was born on August 25, 1949 in Marshalltown to Evan and Marion Axon Goos. Pam graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1967. On February 24, 1968, Pam was united in marriage to David Kacer in Gladbrook and then resided in Toledo. Pam started her career as an EMT for Toledo Ambulance for 20 years. She then went on to attend Marshalltown Community College from 1989 until 1993 where she received her Registered Nursing Degree. Pam was a Registered Nurse in ICU for Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center and a Nurse Educator for 22 years. Pam was also a board member for the Tama County Board of Health. In 2012 she received the Nurse of the Year Award by the Times Republican and all of this while going through her chemotherapy treatments. Pam enjoyed traveling with her family and her sister Terri, she was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed sewing and quilting, spending time in her flower garden and going out to dinner with her friends and co-workers. Pam is survived by her husband of 47 years, David. Children: Jennifer (Steven) Purvis of Garwin and Geoffrey Kacer of Iowa City and grandson Gavin Purvis. Siblings: Terri (Ken) Markwitz of Mansfield, Texas, Louis (Kathy) Rabe of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Ruth (Bobby) Brewster of Cedar Rapids and Susan Rabe of Des Plaines, Illinois. She is also survived by her step mother Esther Goos of Gladbrook, brother in law Larry (Linda) Kacer of Altoona, sister in law Linda Allen of Garwin and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other family members. Pam is preceded in death by her parents Evan and Marion, brother in law Ron Allen and mother and father in law.
