Pamela Kay Mairs was born on February 21, 1949 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Raymond and Dorothy (Thompson) Mairs. She was the youngest of four daughters. Pamela grew up in rural Gilman and attended school in the LDF School District. She later graduated in the LDF Class of 1967 and attended further education at Marshalltown Community College.

In 1967, She was united in marriage to Tom Long. Together they had three children, Todd, Timothy, and Tedd. Pamela worked numerous jobs in Marshalltown. They moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1990 where she worked at Roosevelt Middle School as the school secretary. She stayed at this position until 2010. She and Tom divorced during this time and Pamela moved to Le Grand, Iowa where she would call home for 14 years.

Pamela attended churches in Gilman and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In her free time, her grandchildren were her everything. She followed them to all of their sporting , music and dance events whatever they were. A memory of the grandchildren was getting to go and spend the weekends and have slumber parties with grandma. She also enjoyed watching sports and some of her notable favorite players were Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs. She enjoyed listening to lots of music especially 70’s easy rock. While growing up she played guard position in 6 on 6 basketball and participated in her school plays. She was known to always be friendly to everybody, being high energy, known to never meet a stranger, and took time to really get to know people and understand what was going on in their lives as a true friend would.

Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, Todd (Kim Schnathorst) Long and Timothy (Jeanne) Long; her grandchildren, Haley (Logen) Mendenhall, Nicholas (Kaley) Long, Karly Long, Trevor (Rachel) Long and Lana Long; her great-granddaughter Hazel Long; her sisters, Ardith (Terry) Housman, Jolene McIlrath and Mary Conner; alongside numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tedd Long; her parents, Raymond and Dorothy Mairs; her paternal and maternal grandparents; her niece Sara McIlrath; and brother-in-law, Harold McIlrath.
