Pamela Kay Spence, 77, of Due West, SC, died Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the Abbeville Area Medical Center. She was born on May 28, 1949 in Marshalltown, IA to the late Robert Earl and Maxine Eash Spence.
A 1967 graduate of West Sioux High School in Hawarden, IA, she furthered her education at Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City, IA earning her LPN degree in 1968. Pamela worked in several small nursing homes before returning to her hometown, Marshalltown, IA, where she devoted 33 years of dedicated service at the Iowa Veterans Home, retiring in 2005.
Pamela found joy in life's simple pleasures. She was a passionate reader who could always be found with a good book. Pamela loved expressing her creativity through crafting, especially scrapbooking, and cherished every opportunity to travel and explore new places. Above all, she loved and adored her grandchildren, Sydney and Hunter, who were the lights of her life. Pamela was a member of New Journey Church in Greenwood, SC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Beverly Spence, and two brothers-in-law, Gary Landas and Lorin Miller.
Pamela is survived by her daughter, Dr. Elena Kay Sutton (Patrick) of Hodges, SC; two beloved grandchildren, Sydney and Hunter; three brothers, Elgin Spence of Marshalltown, IA, Rodney Spence of Des Moines, IA, and Gary Spence (Cheryl) of Newton, IA; two sisters, Diana Miller and Cathy Landas.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Rose Hill Memory Gardens in Marshalltown, IA.
